Gold - Alchemical Symbol Hard Enamel Pin
- Description
This is the alchemical symbol for gold.
This symbol has several different applications. At its most basic, it represents gold, the shiny precious metal.
To me, it also represents autism, as autism starts with Au and the chemical symbol for gold is also Au. Many people with autism like the gold infinity symbol to represent themselves, and I have decided that I also like this symbol as an alternative symbol. Autism is not always just about science, it’s also about things we don’t understand, just like alchemy. Alchemists sought meaning in a confusing world that they thought held magic and science in equal measure. In some ways this mirrors the autistic search for meaning in a world where everyone else seems to have a secret understanding of how to communicate, and no one ever tells you how to find the secret for yourself.
The symbol is also a bit of fanart for the webnovel series Worm and Ward, by Wildbow. In these webnovels, the protagonists adopt this symbol to mark those who were involved in fighting the apocalyptic battle at the end of Worm. The day of the battle is referred to as “Gold Morning”, so they use the symbol for gold.
These pins are 25mm (1”) wide, with two posts on the back and my logo as a backstamp.
